This yeast free bread recipe is fast, tasty and healthy.
Trivia: Breads made without yeast are usually known as "quick breads." They are chemically leavened, rather than using yeast, which is a living organism. Living until its cooked, that is.
Ingredients
Tip: You can sour milk by adding 1 teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to a cup of milk.
1/2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cups syrup -- maple or molasses
1 tsp salt
1 egg
2 cups sour or buttermilk
2 tsp baking soda
1 cup flour -- white
2 cups graham flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tbsp shortening -- melted
Method
Beat first four ingredient together. Add the soda dissolved in
milk. Add flour and baking powder sifted together,
then shortening. Bake in 5" by 10" greased pan for 1
hour in oven 375°F.
