Low Fat Cinnamon Buns Recipe

Dough for Low Fat Cinnamon Rolls

3/4 cup skim milk at room temperature
1/4 cup water, room temperature
1 tbsp butter, room temperature
1 egg
3/4 tsp salt
3 cups flour
2 tbsp sugar
2 tsp Bread Machine Yeast

Refer to the manufacturer's instructions, then add ingredients to the bread machine in the order they suggest. Use the dough or manual cycle. When it completes, put the dough on a floured surface. Knead in enough flour to make dough easy to handle. This may not be necessary, but use your judgement. Cover and leave it alone for a quarter of an hour while you prepare the filling.

Filling for your Low Fat Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

1/2 cup applesauce from a can
1 tbsp corn syrup
1 tbsp liquid honey
2 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup raisins
1/2 cup brown sugar

Put the applesauce in a heavy saucepan and cook until it forms a thick paste. Cool. Mix together the corn syrup and honey and heat in the Microwave Oven for a few seconds until it is warm. Set aside.


Punch the dough down, then on a floured surface, roll it out to form a rectangle that is fourteen inches by nine inches. Brush the honey/corn syrup over the dough, leaving a small border at the edges. Spread the applesauce over the honey mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon, raisins and brown sugar.

Spread the filling over the dough, almost to the edges. Roll it up as you would if you were making a jelly roll, then push the seam together. Shape it back into a roll and cut into eight pieces. Grease a 10 inch by 3 inch round pan. Place in pan and rise for twenty minutes or until double the size. Bake at 375 °F for twenty-five minutes.
