Corn Bread Recipe
A good corn bread recipe is a good complement to any barbecue. However, this great food is not limited to barbecues. Enjoy it for breakfast, a snack or with any meal.
Often thought of as soul food, corn bread comes in many varieties, and even with different names. Look for johnnycake, hushpuppies, corn pone and various others.
A corn bread recipe can be baked, friend in a skillet, or occasionally steamed. This page contains two: one of the skillet variety and one that is baked. Both are good. Enjoy.
Basic and Simple Corn Bread Recipe
1 cup Cornmeal
1 cup Flour
3 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1 Egg
1 cup Milk
1/4 cup Salad oil or melted crisco
Mix to-gether flour, cornmeal, baking powder and
salt. Beat egg; add milk and oil or shortening. Add to
dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten. Pour
into greased 8 inch square pan and bake in 400 oven for 30
minutes.
Barbecud Corn Bread Recipe

1 cup Yellow corn meal
1/2 cup Flour
1 cup Buttermilk
1/2 cup Sweet milk
1 Egg, beaten
1/4 cup Melted butter
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Soda
1 tbsp Baking powder
Mix corn meal, flour and salt. Add all the other
ingredients and let stand at least 5 minutes without
mixing. Grease the skillet well and heat it. Now stir
in mixture and pour it into the skillet. Cover the
skillet and bake it on the coals, checking every few
minutes to see that the heat is right. It is cooked
when the top crust is a golden brown color. The bottom will be omewhat moist at this time.
