Ingredients
1/2 cup of warm milk
1/2 egg, beaten
1/4 cup of butter
2 cups of flour
1/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dry yeast
vegetable oil for frying, as required
Method
Put all ingredients in the bread machine, using the order above. The yeast should go on top. Use the dough setting and turn the bread maker on.
After the dough cycle is finished, flour a work surface. Place the donut dough on this floured surface and knead a little. When the bubbles are collapsed, cut the dough into sixteen pieces. Cover it with a damp cloth and leave it for twenty minutes or so.
Pull each ball of dough out so it is circular and about 1/4 of an inch thick. Cut a small hole in the middle. You could use a bottle cap or other small tool as your cutter.
Cover your donuts and let them rise until they are twice the size. This should take about half an hour, or perhaps longer.
Place the donuts in the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry for approximately three minutes until a pleasant brown in color, then turn them over and fry the other side.
Remove the donuts from the oil and drain on paper towels.
I hope you enjoy these bread machine donuts. They are a lovely treat.
